MY STORY
I looked after a company’s future. What about my own?
When I was a CFO, I earned well and spent my working days thinking ahead for a company. I hadn’t given the same attention to a question that was much closer to home. How would I pay for the life I wanted when I was ready to work less?
I had to learn why investing mattered to me and how to keep a longer view when markets fell. I also started to see a pay rise differently. What else could that money give me besides a bigger home or a nicer car? Could it give me more choice about how I spend my time later on?
I think about that when I sit down with someone who’s spent years building a career and is starting to picture life after it. I like to hear what they’d make more time for, then talk through where investing, CPF and savings might fit. It’s fine to come with a question you haven’t quite found the words for yet.
Today, I’m affiliated with Manulife Financial Advisers and focus my conversations on investing for life after full-time work.
